# Rack Mounting

All units shipped with rack mounting brackets can be mounted to fit a standard 19" rack. Two rack mounting brackets are provided in the box as outlined in the **What is in the box** section. The remainder of this document will refer to "rack or cabinet" as "rack".

Some units rely on **chassis‑level directional airflow** **to cool**. These units must be properly mounted into the rack to ensure the fans blow into the correct direction. The fan direction can be determined from the part number of the unit.

When mounting units to the rack, keep the following concepts in mind:

1. Rack airflow requirement
  1. Does the system require a specific front‑to‑back or back‑to‑front orientation to operate safely? The answer will determine installation constraints, whether it has a direction‑dependent thermal design or direction‑independent thermal design cooling.
2. Internal active cooling
  1. Do internal components (CPU, modem, accelerator) include local fans or blowers? This does not imply a rack airflow requirement on its own.

What conclusions can be drawn from the table above?

- Presence of **internal fans alone** does not imply airflow direction requirements.
- Only systems with **defined intake/exhaust paths at the chassis level** require specific rack orientation.
- If **no airflow direction is listed**, the device may be mounted front‑to‑back or back‑to‑front.

1. Install the rack mounting brackets with the provided screws as shown in the diagrams.
2. Locate the position on the rack where you would like to mount the unit and ensure the slot is clear of any obstructions.
3. Slide the unit into the rack and align the mounting bracket screw holes with the screw holes on the rack as shown below:
4. While holding the unit in position, insert the rack mount screws (not included) and turn them clockwise until they are snug, but not tight.
5. Once all the screws are installed, check to ensure that the unit is supported and still in the correct position.
6. Tighten the screws securely in place to complete the installation.
